Super Mario World Bosses
Each world ends at a castle that is guarded by Bowser or one of his minions. Typically, the bosses are super-powered versions of normal foes, and most take three direct stomp attacks to defeat.
Mummipokey
Most Pokeys are a little, well, pokey. But this mummified Pokey moves quickly, digging into the ground and popping out to attack from below. Get above him by using Wall Jumps and stomp or Ground-Pound his head to inflict damage.
Cheepskipper
The Cheepskipper lets its Cheep-Cheep henchmen do most of the dirty work but will eventually flop onto dry land and attempt to skid into Mario. You can then damage it with jumps or Ground Pounds.
Mega Goomba
Looks like a Goomba got into the Mega Mushrooms. Regular stomps won’t cut it this time, but you can Ground-Pound the Mega Goomba by leaping from rising platforms or using Wall Jumps.
Petey Piranha
Dash under Petey Piranha as he flies around the room, attempting to damage you with his own Ground Pounds. After Petey Ground-Pounds and misses, he will then fall on his back, giving you a chance to stomp or Ground-Pound his head or belly for damage.
Monty Tank
Monty Tank’s war machine grows an extra turret each time you hit him, allowing it to fire more Bullet Bills and putting Monty farther out of reach. Leap from the turrets to stomp him or pick up Bob-ombs and throw them to cause damage.
Lakithunder
This Lakitu throws the usual Spinys and can also blast Mario with lightning bolts from its special storm cloud. There is no way to get above it when it is high in the sky, but it will dive down at you from time to time, giving you a chance at a stomp attack.
Bowser Jr
Bowser Jr will appear to battle you at the end of every tower. Each fight is a little different, but he typically relies on two basic moves, which are tossing Koopa shells and curling into his own spiky shell and sliding at Mario. To damage him, you will usually need to stomp his head, or kick the Koopa shells back to knock him over and provide a chance to stomp his prone body.
Bowser
You will always face down Bowser old-school-style. Instead of dealing damage, your goal is simply to get over or under the mighty Koopa and stomp the skull switch behind him. Doing so will destroy the bridge and end the fight.
